2000 Millionaires
From WIN-ipedia - information and strategies about winning
Introduction
On the 10th December 2006, the National Lottery celebrated the creation of its landmark 2,000th millionaire with the largest ever gathering of big jackpot winners, collectively worth over £400 million – to mark this milestone event, new research has been released into the lives of the UK’s exclusive club of lottery millionaires.
The Ipsos MORI survey1 was released to commemorate the record-breaking assembly of more than 120 major jackpot winners, which took place at the lottery-funded Somerset House in London. It offers a unique insight into the lives of the UK’s 2,000 National Lottery millionaires and provides a rare glimpse into what they buy, where they live, and what they do with the money – as well as uncovering how they picked those lucky numbers in the first place.
The research shows the positive effect a big lottery win can have in making millionaire winners:
- feel younger (22%),
- lose weight (19%), and
- feel as happy or happier (96%) than before they hit the jackpot.
It is not just the winners themselves who reap the benefits of a lottery win, however, as the overnight millionaires also:
- give money to family (99%),
- to friends (76%) and
- to charity (91%).
In fact, 17% of National Lottery millionaires have paid off five or more mortgages and 15% have created at least one other millionaire.
A National Lottery spokesperson said:
“The National Lottery has created millionaires from all walks of life and from all four corners of the UK – to have reached a monumental 2,000 millionaires in only 12 years proves just how much the nation has taken the lottery to its heart. It isn’t just about these 2,000 lucky people though – with over £19 billion raised for Good Causes, transforming millions of lives in communities the length and breath of the UK, everyone across the UK is a winner on the lottery.”
The study also revealed that houses, cars and caravans still top the list of lottery winners’ top 10 purchases, the USA and Dubai have leapt above Spain as their favourite holiday destinations and BMW, Land Rover/Range Rover are the millionaires’ motors of choice.
One ticket-holder matched all six numbers to win the £6,979,907 jackpot in Wednesday night’s Lotto Rollover draw (6 December 2006). If this prize is claimed by a single winner or a syndicate of up to six people, they will become the 2,000th lottery millionaire. The National Lottery is appealing to the lucky ticket-holder to come forward and claim their prize – the jackpot-winning Lotto numbers on Wednesday were 2, 5, 9, 12, 22 and 32.
