Bar bets can range from obscure trivia to feats of strength and skill to flat out cons.

A bar bet is a form of a confidence game. It is set up in such a way that it seems to be a fair wager, while in fact the ‘odds’ are weighted considerably in favour of the challenger. A ‘good’ bar bet (from the point of view of the hustler), should sounds so impossible that the ‘sucker’, or mark, is keen to take up the bet.

In fact, the mark is usually encouraged to try the feat (and fail) before the challenger demonstrates how to do it.

Here are some common bar bets still doing the rounds.

Four in a Row

You will be shown 6 coins or bottle caps arranged in a 'T' shape. Four coins form the upright and the remaing two are placed on either side of the top coin.

The challenge is to make 2 rows of 4 caps each. Seems easy, but the condition is that only one coin can be moved. .....

When everyone's finished fumbling around, you can provide the very simple solution. Take the bottle cap from the bottom of your T-shape and place it on the bottle cap at the top.

You've made two rows of four.
