The 'simple' goal of Monopoly is to force all of the other players into bankruptcy by buying property; building houses and hotels, and charging rent. Monopoly was based on The Landlord's Game (1904), designed and patented by Elizabeth Magie. The traditional board was deisgned by Charles Darrow in 1935, and published by Parker Brothers.
