Introduction

Roulette is a Casino game; its name comes from the French term for a “small wheel”. A croupier spins the roulette wheel which has 37 or 38 numbered pockets in which a ball must land. The pockets are numbered from 1 to 36, and these alternate in colour from red to black; number 1 is always red. There is also an additional green pocket, this is numbered 0. In the USA, most roulette wheels also have a second additional pocket, marked 00.

A player can bet on numbers, combinations, ranges, odds/evens, and colours. The odds for a player betting and winning with a single number is 35 to 1. However, the bet is also returned, giving a winning total that is 36 times the initial bet. The extra '0' on the American roulette wheel increases the hous advantage to 5.4%, while the European roulette wheel offers tha hous an advantage of 2.7%.

How not to lose

Only play for fun - consider the 'bet' to be your payment for the 2-15 minutes of entertainment you get from the game. The Casino edge is too great to consider this anything other than a time waster and money-loser.
